Summer Birthdays

One of the fun traditions of the new school year is the first night of Newman's Birthday Celebration!  We gather at the Campus Religious Center for introductions, to touch base about upcoming activities, and then we carpool to Perkins for birthday pie.  This is a 2nd Tuesday activity during the school year, but, the last Tuesday in August has worked well for the summer celebration.

As always, we appreciate Perkins for allowing our group to come in and, essentially, take over the back room for pie and fellowship.  Join us September 12th to celebrate September birthdays.  All are welcome to celebrate each month, but we recognize those whose birth month is September at that time.

Slip 'n Slide Kickball

Another school year favorite, Slip 'n Slide Kickball, was our activity of the day.   The weather was overcast and a little cool, so our initial numbers were a little low.  Part way through the game, more people joined us, including some members of the rugby team. A good time was had by all!

Amazing (g)Race

Our first ever Amazing (g)Race was held last night.  It was a race around campus, beginning in the Student Center and ending at the Campus Religious Center.  We had stiff competition from Grocery Bingo, but the Newman Club put together a good program.  Those that ran it had a good time.

Each building had a stop and an activity before they could move on.  Congratulations to one of the newest 'Stangs on campus, Emily, on her win!

Welcome Grill Out!

The Catholic 'Stangs, working with the LuminStangs, hosted the annual grill out tonight. It was an amazing sight, relaxed and comfortable students, familiar with each and campus, opening up to include the newcomers to campus, who might not be quite as relaxed or comfortable or familiar with what their new environment.  It was equally nice to see students stepping out of their comfort zone and going to a place that is new to them to have a meal with others.

Many thanks to the awesome Catholic 'Stangs who set up for the event.  From choosing games to set-up, to preparing for the conversations with new students, their efforts were recognizable.  We have a terrific Core Team and Executive Board who are working to bring the love of Christ to campus.

Sand Volleyball

Our kick-off activity for the first week of classes was Sand Volleyball.  We had a good amount of rain in the morning, so there was some question on if the courts would be ready for play, but they were!  We played three sets and had a great time!  Afterwards, we returned to the Campus Religious Center for food and fellowship.  Tuesday is the annual grill out.  Stay tuned for more pictures!

Root Beer Floats

An annual Move-In Day tradition, ROOT BEER FLOATS, was held again this year.  More than 225 people were served ice cream, toppings, root beer and fellowship.  It was a good opportunity to get to meet new students, and their families, as well as get reacquainted with old friends.  A special thank you to Scott Ritter, of Valley Discount Liquor, for the donation of the root beer keg, and to Steve and Kay Klein, of the Walnut Grove Mercantile, for the donation of the fudge certificate door prizes.
